file guidelines
  • We will need your art in digital format so that we may produce your sign properly. To assure quality results use the following guidelines when preparing files for Elite Signs & Graphics production.

  • Logos, Text, Line-based or Vector based artwork: For this type of artwork, we will need the following types of files: EPS (encapsulated post script), AI (Adobe Illustrator), or PDF (portable document file). As long as the artwork has been created in a program that uses vector graphics such as Adobe Illustrator, CorelDraw, or Freehand, we can manipulate it and scale it appropriately.

  • Photos, 4-color Images or Raster Artwork: This type of artwork is based on pixels. It is important that if we are creating a large sign that the artwork is equally as large. Just scaling a smaller image to make it larger will simply make the image fuzzy and pixilated. For this type of artwork, we will need the following: Either a TIFF or JPEG that ideally has a resolution of 300 dpi scaled at the size of its final output. The higher the resolution, the better.
  • Artwork must allow for finishing (sleeves, grommets, frames, etc.)
Any image/text that should not be stitched through must be far enough away from the edges to accommodate stitching of sleeves or hems. When paneling will be required, consider how this will affect the art.
  • To avoid confusion ONLY send files needed to produce the job.

  • DO NOT resize lower resolution files to a higher resolution.

  • To ensure accurate color matching, specify Pantone (PMS) colors. When Pantone equivalent colors are not available, proofs are strongly recommended to review color and output.

CorelDraw II or earlier:

  • Please convert text or symbols to curves or send the TTF (True Type Font) used.
  • Please use spot colors for fills (PMS colors). Mixed CMYK colors look different from one screen to the next..PMS numbers give us a more accurate indication of the final color(s) required.

Adobe Illustrator 10 or earlier:

  • Please convert ALL text to curves in the file.
  • Any separate lines must be made into actual vector outline. Strokes will not convert into a cuttable object, so please convert all strokes to outlines as well.
  • Any embedded TIF, PSD, or other bitmap must be sent as well (if to be included in the sign).
  • Please use spot colors (PMS) for fills.
  • Save files as an .EPS or .Al file.

Adobe Photoshop CS or Corel PhotoPaint II or earlier:

  • Please save files as .PSD, .TIF or .BMP. Do not send .GIF or .JPG. These are usually low resolution images for internet purposes. .JPG files accepted if saved with no compression.
  • Make sure image will be at least 75 dpi at full printed size. Example: An image on screen at 3.00" X 5.00" at 150 dpi printed at 6.00" X 10.00" will be a 75 dpi image.
  • Please create images as CMYK for best results.

Adobe Acrobat (PDF)
We can accept .zip (WinZIP compressed) files.

  • Please note: If you have complicated artwork that needs to be re-traced, re-drawn, or digitized, there will probably be an additional design cost involved. Simple designs and artwork may not require an additional cost. Please ask us if you are unsure. You can submit files to us through email or burned onto a CD. For large files we prefer CD submission.
